If you have volunteered at the Food Bank before, or if you would like to check it out:
Availability has just opened up for two of our Monday evening sorts this month! If you have a few hours to spare on either Monday Sept. 14th or Sept. 28th from 5:30 pm–7:30 pm they would love your help!
SCEL teachers will not be at these events, but you can sign up yourself, or with a fellow student!
This year’s Canstruction Spokane raised funds to provide almost 16,000 meals to help families in need in our area! Donations were raised through votes for the People’s Choice Award, which went to Knock Out Hunger (NAC Architecture, DCI Engineers, Garco Construction, MSI Engineers). Great job to both teams for your creative designs. Thank you to all who voted and donated!
15 students who participated in the Maidan Square uprising received scholarships to attend an 8 week English course at the Canadian College of English Language summer 2014. Developed in conjunction with OWL Vancouver the program enabled the students to regain their strength, re evaluate their vision and to return to the Ukraine with skills and perspective that would strengthen their ability to achieve their goals and succeed in future study programs and careers.
In 2012 Smrt and the Canadian College of English Language initiated a scholarship program for 50 students who have lost parents, homes, and livelihoods as a result of the tsunami in Japan. The scholarship was for free tuition (courtesy of CCEL) and free accommodation for up to 3 months.
Smrt English is being taught in Bali, Indonesia to local children for free. With 15 laptops we can give 100 Indonesian children an education. If you have any old laptops that you would like to donate to Green School in Bali please let us know. If they are broken we will repair them. Thank you for your support.
